  • What is acupuncture and how does it work?
The practice of acupuncture originated in China over 3000 years ago, making it the most ancient continuing system of healing in human history. The basic premise of acupuncture is that Qi (pronounced “chee”) is the “vital energy” or ”life force” that flows throughout a healthy body in a balanced and harmonious fashion. Various internal and external influences-including trauma, poor diet, lack of exercise, overwork, environmental toxins and emotional problems-block or unbalance the Qi. The way in which the Qi becomes unbalanced or blocked differs for each person. The acupuncturist diagnoses the nature of the client’s Qi imbalance upon completion of a thorough medicinal intake. The acupuncturist then painlessly inserts extremely thin, sterile, disposable acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. Once the needles are in place, most clients rest comfortable and may even fall asleep. Treatments last approximately one hour. Over time, the Qi is brought back into a more balanced and harmonious state, and the client reports an improvement in health, since the body is able to heal itself more quickly and more completely.
  • How long has Carol been practicing?
    Since 1994.
  • How many treatments are necessary?
Each person is unique with an individualized treatment plan. No two conditions or people respond exactly the same. The length of treatment depends on the type, severity, and duration of the condition at the time one is seeking treatment. In short or lengthy cases, evaluations are done regularly to assess your progress. In order to obtain the best therapeutic results, it is important to follow the treatment plan and recommendations carefully.
  • Are there any side effects to the treatment?
Usually not. As energy is redirected in the body, internal chemicals and hormones are stimulated and healing begins to take place. Occasionally the original symptoms worsen for a few days, or other general changes may be noted in appetite., sleep, bowel or urine patterns, or in one’s emotional state. These should not cause concern, as they are simply indications that the acupuncture is starting to work. It is quite common with the first one or two treatments to have a sensation of deep relaxation or even mild disorientation immediately following the treatment. These pass within a short time, and never require more than a bit of rest to overcome. They are also indicative of the beginning of the healing process.
